Dr. Hassan Rouhani left for Sochi in Russia on Wednesday morning to attend the Iran-Russia-Turkey summit on developments in Syria.
The official departure ceremony for President Rouhani was attended by First Vice-president Es’hagh Jahangiri, Senior Advisor to the Leader of Islamic Revolution for International Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati as well as a number of ministers and deputy ministers.
Rouhani entourage comprises Head of President’s Office Mahmoud Vaezi, VP for Economic Affairs Mohammad Nahavandian, President’s Cultural Advisor Hessameddin Ashena as well as Deputy Chief of Staff of the President for Political Affairs Hamid Aboutalebi.
After recent meeting between foreign ministers of Iran, Turkey and Russia in Antalya, the leaders of the three countries are set to meet at a crucial presidential summit in Sochi on Nov. 22 to discuss the political future of Syria, amid hope that the civil war is coming to an end and victory against jihadist groups is imminent.
Also, in line with the successes achieved in the fight against ISIL Takfiri terrorism in Syria, future steps for long-term stability of the situation in the Arab country will be discussed by the leaders of Iran, Russia and Turkey.
Previously, a meeting of senior Iranian, Russian and Turkish experts was held in Tehran prior to a meeting of foreign ministers of the three countries in Antalya, Turkey where the three FMs mulled over how to proceed with Astana talks and prepared the ground for holding the summit of their countries on the Syrian issue.
